Janet Somers

Janet graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in music. There she studied with Paul Renzi, who had been principal flute with Toscanini’s NBC orchestra and only recently retired from the same position with the San Francisco Symphony. She also studied with Jean Pierre Rampal in Nice, France, and with Julius Baker, principal with the New York Philharmonic. When earning her MA in flute performance at Montclair State University she studied with Susan Nidal of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Janet has free-lanced as a flutist in the New Jersey area for many years.  She and her husband Paul are the editors of the chamber music of Robert Russell Bennett to be published soon through Maurice River Press. They live in deep southern New Jersey only a few miles from Delaware Bay. There they present salon concerts in their house.
