BAY ATLANTIC SYMPHONY EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH
MUSIC DIRECTOR JED GAYLIN THROUGH 2021
Contract Marks a Quarter Century of Symphony Leadership Under the Baton of Maestro Jed Gaylin

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (March 2, 2017) – The Board of Directors and Trustees for Bay Atlantic Symphony announced today a five-year contract extension for Maestro Jed Gaylin as Music Director. This new contract secures Gaylin’s proven leadership at a pivotal time in the orchestra’s expansion of performances and music education initiatives in southern New Jersey.

“Since Jed joined as Music Director in 1997 the orchestra embarked on a period of phenomenal growth,” said Board President Mark Soifer, Esq. “Through his charismatic leadership and creative expertise, Jed has brought a level of earned prominence and respectability to our symphony orchestra as one of the finest performing arts organizations in New Jersey.”

In the 20 years Gaylin has served as music director, the Symphony expanded its performance schedule from nine classical concerts per year to 21 full orchestra concerts. Performances now take place in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties and feature a range of classical and pops, concerts including a full schedule of summer engagements in partnership with the City of Avalon and Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. Under Gaylin’s guidance and oversight Bay Atlantic Symphony’s youth education initiatives have grown significantly including a new music mentorship program in Vineland, New Jersey, and a thriving program in two Atlantic City Schools in association with William and Virginia Gormley’s Atlantic City Friends of Music Foundation.

“As a long-time Symphony supporter, I have watched Jed build it up from a local performing group to one of the finest regional orchestras in the country,” commented Bob Woodruff, board member, past president and long-time supporter. “The quality of music is outstanding and now draws audiences from throughout South Jersey.”

Bay Atlantic Symphony’s partnership with Stockton University has established a prominent Atlantic County home for the orchestra. It has also created a dynamic community relationship that takes the music far beyond the performance hall. Since 2012 Gaylin has served as artist in residence at Stockton University. In that short time, he has played an active role in developing several music education and enrichment programs including master classes, open rehearsals, and conversations with the artists. He teaches classes in the arts as well as other disciplines, serves as curriculum advisor, and collaborates with Stockton’s expanding network of performance venues and education resource centers.

“Of all the significant contributions the Maestro has made to the orchestra, the most important is the commitment he makes to the talented professional musicians that make Bay Atlantic Symphony the orchestra it is today,” said the orchestra’s concertmaster Ruotao Mao.

“Many of my colleagues have been performing with the Bay Atlantic Symphony for years. This is a testament to the respect we all have for Jed’s leadership, generosity and musicianship," added principal flutist, Kimberly Reighley.

Looking forward to the next five years Gaylin commented, “I consider it a privilege to continue my association with Bay Atlantic Symphony as music director. It is an honor to lead an orchestra comprised of the most talented musicians in the region, who bring such committed artistry to every rehearsal and performance. During my tenure, I have witnessed the continued evolution of the Symphony’s board of directors and their steadfast resolve to building a symphony and organization of such scope, strength, and reach. Collaborating with this fine group of community leaders has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career. I am enthusiastic that Bay Atlantic Symphony will experience unprecedented growth as we move further into this century.”
